Yucheng City lies in the northwest of Shandong Province of China, a part of the Bohai Economic Development Zone. Yucheng City is not only the "Satellite City" of Jinan City(the provincial capital of Shandong Province), but also is one of the central cities in northwest of Shandong Province. It is a city of 990 square kilometers with a population of 496,000.
Yucheng has a long history, and it is the area where Dayu fought against flood in ancient times, the birthplace of "Longshan Culture". During the Xia-Shand Dynasty, it belonged to Yanzhou, which is one of the nine states of the whole country. In order to commemorate Dayu, a famous hero who once fought against flood in ancient times, it was founded to be "Yucheng County" in Tang Dynasty. Now there are also ruins of Yuwang Pavilion in west of Yucheng City. In sep. 1993, it was upgraded into a county level city.
In recent years, the prosperous open economy accelerates the development speed of Yucheng City. The agriculture with hi-quailty, hi-effect are developing quickly, Yucheng City becomes the national base for commodity grain, hi-quality cotton, livestock husbandry, melon & vegetable; The guiding industry are developing rapidly, such as biological technology, textile, machinery, mechanical and electrical industry, light industry, food ect.. The major industry is biological hi-tech industry(incl. xylitol, oligosaccharide, xylo-oligosaccharide, brain-enhancing capsule); the circulation of commodities is flourishing and brisk, Yucheng City has become an important material distribution center in the northwest of Shandong Province.
